President Biden’s remarks on the ‘battle for the soul of nation’ warned, “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.” Harsh words directed at nearly half of the electorate. He went on to say, “and, folks, it is within our hands – yours and mine – to stop the assault on American democracy.” This could be passed off as election year political hyperbole or then again not. It was a troubling speech, from its staging with the blood red background and Marine guard, to its absolute demonization of his political opposition. None of that was by accident. More troubling still is that President Biden is not in charge. He no longer possesses the mental acuity to be.
